The GreyHeart Transylvanian Cattery’s First Appearance in Thailand – WCF Cat Olympiad 2026

On June 27–28, 2026, one of the World Cat Federation’s most prestigious international events, the WCF Cat Olympiad, was held in Bangkok–Nonthaburi, Thailand. The event was hosted by the FUR Thailand WCF Club, which welcomed breeders, exhibitors, and cat enthusiasts from around the world with outstanding organization and a truly festive atmosphere.

BANGKOK is the capital of Thailand, the largest city in Southeast Asia, and one of the region’s most important economic, cultural, and transportation hubs. Located along the Chao Phraya River, the metropolis combines modern skyscrapers with traditional temples. The city is a major international event destination and one of the busiest tourism centers in the region.

The WCF Cat Olympiad is one of the highlights of the international cat fancy calendar.

In addition to the international show itself, the event also serves as the official awards ceremony recognizing the most successful cats and breeders of the previous exhibition season—in this case, the achievements of 2025. More than just a cat show, it is one of the most important gatherings of the WCF community, offering breeders from across the globe an opportunity to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and gain insight into breeding cultures from different countries.

For us, this event held particular significance. It had long been our dream to participate in a cat show in the Far East. Although we have introduced the Transylvanian cat at numerous European exhibitions, we were especially curious to see how this emerging breed, currently in the process of official recognition, would be received by the Asian public, as well as by breeders and judges from the region.

The opening ceremony itself was an unforgettable experience. The organizers presented a spectacular cultural performance that provided a fitting start to this prestigious international event. Seeing the Hungarian flag among those of the participating nations filled us with pride, as it symbolized the opportunity to represent both Hungary and our cattery on such an important international stage.

Representing GreyHeart Cattery was Nicha GreyHeart,

our fifth-generation female kitten, six months of age. Despite her young age, Nicha remained calm and well-balanced throughout the event, adapting remarkably well to her new surroundings and handling the challenges of long-distance international travel with confidence. Once again, this confirmed the importance we place on developing the characteristic temperament of the Transylvanian breed—a calm, people-oriented nature that has become one of its defining qualities.

Another milestone in our international breeding program.

During the judging, Nicha GreyHeart received the Excellent 1 qualification on both exhibition days, an encouraging professional evaluation for us. Several judges expressed their appreciation for the breed’s natural appearance, harmonious body structure, and composed temperament. Such feedback is particularly valuable for a breed that is still progressing through the official recognition process, as every international presentation offers an opportunity for the professional community to become familiar with our work.

Equally rewarding was the interest shown by visitors throughout the two-day exhibition.

Many people stopped at Nicha’s exhibition space to ask about the breed’s origin, development, and breeding program. For many of them, this was their very first encounter with a Transylvanian cat. It was gratifying to witness how the breed’s natural appearance, distinctive coat, and friendly expression immediately attracted attention. More than one visitor commented that Nicha had captured their heart at first sight.

The interest extended beyond the general public.

We had the pleasure of engaging in numerous in-depth conversations with fellow breeders about the breed’s history, genetic background, and our future breeding goals. These professional discussions are especially valuable to us, as we have always believed that the development of the Transylvanian breed should be transparent, scientifically grounded, and based on responsible breeding practices. We are convinced that the long-term success of any emerging breed depends not only on exhibition results but also on open professional dialogue and ethical breeding.

This journey also reinforced our belief that the Transylvanian cat has grown beyond being solely a Hungarian breeding project. We continue to meet people from an increasing number of countries who are genuinely interested in learning about the breed, its history, and its breeding philosophy, and who appreciate our vision of preserving and developing a naturally beautiful, well-balanced, and people-oriented cat.

Naturally, a journey of this distance required extensive preparation.

Meeting all veterinary and import regulations, organizing international transportation, and ensuring Nicha’s safety and comfort throughout the trip were tasks that began well before the exhibition. We were delighted to see that all of these preparations proved worthwhile, as Nicha adapted exceptionally well to this unique experience.

The host of the WCF Cat Olympiad was the FUR Thailand WCF Club.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the entire team of the FUR Thailand WCF Club for their outstanding organization, hospitality, and dedicated support throughout the event. Our thanks also go to the judges for their encouraging evaluations, to the breeders for their interest and inspiring professional discussions, and to everyone who stopped to meet Nicha, asked questions, took photographs, or simply shared a few kind words about our work.

For GreyHeart Cattery, this journey represents an important milestone.

We are proud that the Transylvanian cat has now been presented not only in Europe and the Americas, but also in Asia. We hope this marks just the beginning of an even broader international journey, during which more people around the world will discover this unique and steadily developing breed.

For us, every exhibition represents far more than competition. It is an opportunity to build international relationships, gain valuable experience, and responsibly represent the breeding work to which we have dedicated many years. The memories we created at the WCF Cat Olympiad in Thailand will remain with us for a long time and will continue to inspire us as we move forward with the development and international promotion of the Transylvanian breed.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making this unforgettable experience possible.
